Photographs on Google

A quick google search for keywords such as "archaeology photographs" or "photographs of archaeology" bring up a few key questions.
1. How are photographs manipulated to represent what is considered a "positive" image for archaeologists?
2. How often are these photographs staged?
3. What are key themes in photography of archaeology?

Here are a few examples of what shows up on google:

digging/excavation scene

again, digging.

And of course, the numerous pictures of Indiana Jones.

Just some things to think about. Why would it be advantageous for people representing archaeology in photographs to manipulate the photos? And for what purpose might this be? Going forward with this blog, these things will be addressed.

  1. Looking back at our blog this seems like a great post to start our exploration of photos and manipulation. We have come a long way.
